An important hurdle to the launch of 5G in Brazil was removed as broadcasters and telcos agreed on a solution to potential jamming between the mobile technology and satellite TV services.
Disagreements between operators and broadcasters on how to deal with the interference concerns were risking delaying the 5G tender in Brazil.
In a joint statement, telcos association SindiTelebrasil, and radio and TV broadcasters Abert and Abratel said they all agreed on a solution for interference mitigation proposed by Brazilian ICT R&D firm CPqD, which involves the use of special filters.
With that, the free-to-air satellite TV service known as TVRO would remain on the C band, adjacent to the spectrum to be occupied by 5G.
The entities said that in the coming months complementary field tests will be carried out by CPqD to confirm the results obtained so far.
